Marie Lorene Hollis Edwards's Obituary

Marie "Lorene" Hollis Edwards, 100 of Garden City passed peacefully from this earth into the glory of the Lord May 25, 2018. She died at home surrounded by loving family.  Lorene was born August 31, 1917, the first child of Adier and Florence Marie Hollis in Cullman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sister: James, Bill and Thelma Hollis; husband of 71 years, Earl Edwards and a son, William Paul Edwards.

She is survived by her children: Edgar (Donna) Edwards, Anna Marie (Wayne) Wisener, John (Becky) Edwards, Chris (Elaine) Edwards and Bonnie (Jim) Wilson. Also beloved caretaker and great niece, Rebekah Allison; 14 Grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren as well as many friends.

Funeral services are 2 P.M. Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Hanceville Funeral Home. Burial following in Hopewell Cemetery.  Visitation Monday evening beginning at 5:30.

In her very full, productive life of service to others Lorene raised six kids, gardened and shared the produce with neighbors and friends. Wrote a column "Down on the Farm" by Ma Brown for The Cullman Times, and a book chronicling her life ("And Nothing But…" – Nothing But the Truth).  She taught Sunday School, VBS, Children's Church and WMU Mission study books.  Several generations remember Mrs. Edwards' teachings and true stories.  In her very little spare time (Sunday afternoons) Lorene like to paint landscapes; she spent three weeks painting a river scene backdrop for the baptistery of Garden City Baptist Church.  After her children were grown she finished a psychology degree at UAB, delivered Meals on Wheels and taught literacy classes  to children and adults. She used her Master's Degree in Graphoanalysis (handwriting analysis) to help people understand themselves and problematic situations, make important relationship and career decisions, and change negative personality traits.

We wish to express heartfelt thanks to all the hospice caregivers who so faithfully and lovingly attended her.

Lorene was and still is greatly loved; she touched the lives of all who knew her in profound and lasting ways.
