Obituary

Reverend Vernon Lee Alvis, age 84 of Garden City, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. He was born in Cullman County on June 2, 1937 to Eddie Lee Alvis and Mary Jane Woodruf Alvis. He was the founding member and also pastor of Trinity Pentecostal Church in Hanceville from the start. He loved to hunt and fish; to be with his family and work in the garden. He was the owner of Alvis Logging Services.

Reverend Alvis was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Mary Jane Alvis; his daughter, Connie Thompson; three brothers and three sisters. He leaves to cherish his memory by his loving wife of 63 years, Elan Wilbanks Alvis; his children, Tony Alvis and Beth (Tony) Chambers; grandchildren, Cody Chambers, Taylor (Geremy) Hooks, Jacey Alvis, Emma Chambers, Sharon (Jeremy) Loggins and Amy Thornton; several great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at 2:00 PM from the Trinity Pentecostal Church with Brother Herman Elliott and Brother Donnie Cason officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 and at the church on Thursday from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
