Funeral services for Melvin Hammond III will be 12:00 P.M. Saturday, July 30 ^th at Fairview Baptist Church in Colony, Alabama. Burial will follow at Colony Community Cemetery. Visitation for the public will be from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the church on Saturday.

Mr. Hammond was born on January 20, 1948 in White Cloud, Michigan. He died at the age of 74 on July 22, 2022 at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a Mason for many years and also served as a Councilman with the Town of Colony. Mr. Hammond was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and was over the finance committee for the church. In addition to being very active within his community, Mr. Hammond was a member of the United States Navy. He retired after serving his country for 14 years. Mr. Hammond was a family man and will be missed by all those who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Hammond; children, Tara Owens, Kim Hammond; Melvin (Teresita) Hammond IV, and Robert (Melody) Hammond; and siblings, Rose Hammond, Larry (Lori) Hammond and Donall Hammond.

Mr. Hammond was preceded in death by his mother, Charley Louise Hammond; father, Melvin Hammond; two sisters, Darlene Hammond and Dorothy Jefferson; and a brother, Fred Hammond.
