Mary Welch was born on July 26, 1933 in Cullman, Alabama. She grew up in the Shelton Grove community in Cullman. She was the daughter of George and Mamie Welch and was a sister to seven siblings. On September 10, 1952 she married Elvin (Doc) McSwain and was a devoted mother to two daughters, Joan and Nina. Mary, along with her husband, owned and operated several businesses in Dodge City.
In her life, Mary Emily McSwain was known for many things. Gardens trimmed neatly and blooming bright. A welcoming home decorated to a T. She was never too busy for a visit from family or friends. Her artwork showing the love of her family, children, and grandchildren she painted with smiles and rosy cheeks. She played the piano, made porcelain dolls, and her kitchen stayed full of homemade goodies and treats. Mary was well known for all of these things, yet her disposition and character outshined them all. Always happy. Always sweet. Her smile and her laughter were contagious. Her strong faith showed through with grace and love for everyone. She was a delight and rare treasure. She will be deeply missed and wonderfully remembered.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Elvin (Doc) McSwain; her parents, George and Mamie Welch; grandson, Jackson Lambert; her siblings, Ed Welch, Gilbert Welch, Clifford Welch, Tracy Welch; Eunice Welch, Catherine Welch, and Woodrow Welch.
She is survived by her daughters, Joan (Jerry) Lynn and Nina (Billy) Harvison; grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn, Jason (Mandi) Lynn, Jani Judkins, Trent (Brittany) Judkins, Clay Judkins; great grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn, Cody Lynn, Levi Lynn, Brody Lacey, Ben lacey, Olivia Drake, Madison Lambert, Morgan Lambert, Brailey Judkins, Emma Judkins; and a host of nieces and nephews.
