Funeral services for Mary Jane Irons, 82, of Hanceville will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 28th at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Fairview West Cemetery. Brother Adam Whitehead will be officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, January 28th from 11 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Hanceville Funeral Home.
Mary Jane Shugart Irons was born at home in Crane Hill, Alabama on June 13, 1941 to Charles Edwin (Ed) Shugart and Annie Sullins Shugart; the eldest of Four daughters; She passed from this life on January 23, 2024 at the age of 82.
Mary was a graduate of Hanceville High School, and the St. Vincent's School of Nursing. Mary excelled in caring for others. Mary's nursing career spanned Forty Years; with Twenty of those years at Hartselle Hospital and Twenty Years at Woodland Medical Center. She cherished her time at Hartselle Hospital and Woodland Medical Center having made lasting friendships that endured long after she retired. Mary was the embodiment of her profession and although she retired from her nursing career, she continued to care for family, friends, and anyone in need, until her death.
A woman of many talents, Mary played the piano beautifully, and led the music service at church. She was an avid gardener, who loved nothing better than being outdoors. Mary was especially proud of her beautiful red roses, that lined her yard. Animals always held a special place in her heart, and she never failed to care for and spoil any animal she encountered, especially her, "Grand dogs" Maddie and Sable.
She enjoyed traveling with family and friends alike and was always packed and ready for the next adventure.
Mary was a devoted wife to her Husband Bob and was a loving mother, friend, and confidant to her daughter Annette. Mary loved her Church and Church family and was a faithful member her entire life.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edwin and Annie Sullins Shugart; her husband Bobby Gene Irons and her Sister JoAnn Couey. She is survived by her daughter, Annette (Stephen) Parker; Sisters, Gail (Dillard) Quick, Mitzi (Ray) Black; nieces and nephews, Joey Couey, Dillard Ray (Wendy) Quick, Joyce Robinson, Tonya (Jonathan) Godbee, Mitchell (Amy) Black, Michael (Ashley) Black; Special dear friends Anna Intraboona Quick and Jean Howse, along with a myriad of cousins, and friends.
The family would request, in lieu of flowers, Donations be made to the Laodicea Church Piano/music fund, Address: 276 County Road 522 Hanceville, Alabama 35077.
