Funeral services for Joel W. Kennemur, 83, of Athens will be 12:00 P.M., Sunday, April 12th at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Bethlehem East Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, April 11th from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at Hanceville Funeral Home.
Mr. Kennemur was born September 11, 1942, in Childersburg, Alabama to the late Flemming & Autie Kennemur. He passed away April 9, 2026, in Athens, Alabama.
Joel worked for 30 years as an electrical engineer, a career that reflected his strong work ethic. Beyond his profession, his life was rooted in his faith. He served as an ordained Baptist deacon at Eastside Baptist Church in Cullman, where he was a respected and trusted member of his church family.
Joel loved spending time outdoors, especially in his yard and landscaping. He was also an avid hunter, finding peace in nature. One of his most cherished experiences was a hunting trip to Russia, where he successfully hunted a Red Stag—an adventure he spoke of with great pride. He will be remembered for his devotion to his faith and the love he had for life itself.
Mr. Kennemur is survived by his wife, Barbara Kennemur; children, Donna Anderson (Tom), Pam Blalock (Todd), Rhonda Kennemur; grandchildren, Cody Ashley (Hannah), Dalton Anderson, Carli Harris (Austin), Ashlan Anderson, Kayla Nichols, Lily Nichols, Connor Blalock, Ella Chapin (Luke); great grandchildren, Scottie Harris, Bhode Ashley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and family members.
Mr. Kennemur was preceded in death by his parents, Flemming & Autie Kennemur; siblings, Flemming Dale Kennemur, Patty Gail Choate, and Jackie Lanier Kennemur.
Serving as pallbearers will be Cody Ashley, Todd Blalock, Connor Blalock, Luke Chapin, Josh Calvert, and Tyler Tankersly. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Dalton Anderson, Tom Anderson, and Brian Mattox.
