Mr. Crawford was born on March 24, 1945 in Cullman, AL to the late Harvey and Gladys Crawford. He passed away on October 9, 2026 at His residence in Hanceville, AL.
Lavern was a devoted Christian whose faith guided his life as a loving pastor who faithfully served the Lord and his congregation for many years. He was also a skilled carpenter who dedicated more than 60 years to his trade. Throughout his career, he built many homes in Cullman and the surrounding areas. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and the work of his hands. Lavern also had a deep love for Alabama Crimson Tide football. Saturdays were special as he cheered on his beloved Tide. He enjoyed watching game replays throughout the week, reliving the excitement and keeping up with the team he loved. His passion for Alabama football was just one more part of the personality and traditions that made him so special to those who knew him.
Yet, as proud as Lavern was of his work and football, he believed his greatest accomplishment in life was not found in the homes he built, but in the family he loved. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his greatest blessings and the true treasures of his heart. He loved his family, and nothing brought him greater joy than the life he and his wife built together. Lavern was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Jean, for 64 wonderful years. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and commitment. They raised two children and were blessed to watch their family grow to include ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. To his family, he was a loving husband, Daddy, and DayDay; titles he cherished deeply. His greatest legacy was the love he poured into his family and the generations that will continue to carry his memory forward.
Lavern lived a life marked by faith, service, hard work, and unconditional love. He faithfully served his Lord, worked diligently with his hands, and treasured his family above all else. The homes he built throughout the years stand as a testament to his skill and dedication, but the greatest legacy he leaves behind is the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched along the way. We will miss him more than words can express but we find comfort in knowing that his faith has become sight and that he is now at home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know him. Lavern's earthly work is finished, but his legacy of faith, love, and devotion will continue for generations to come.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Charlotte Crawford; children, Tim (Michelle) Crawford and Teresa (Mark) McKleroy; grandchildren, Brandy (Scotty) Mullins, Josh (Sarah) McKleroy, Garrett (Lindsey) McKleroy, Chase (Kayla) Crawford, Kaitlin Crawford, Evie Kenyon, Hailey Zeglan, Lillian Zeglan, Alaina Kikendall, Alex Kikendall, Anna Kenyon, Joseph Gariepy; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Woodruff Jr., Brody Woodruff, Bronner Woodruff, Brayden Woodruff, Kayleigh McKleroy, Tucker Rodgers, Ryan Crawford, Levi Crawford, Rinley Crawford, Evan McKleroy, Owen McKelroy, Gabrielle Chandler, Isabella Chandler, Celeste (Zachary) Chandler; brothers, Jackie Crawford and Junior (Athelene) Crawford; and a host of nieces and nephews.
