Mrs. Cooksey was born April 4, 1969 in Jefferson County, Alabama. She passed away August 31, 2026 at Cullman Regional Medical Center in Cullman, Alabama. She and Randy were married for 37 years. Together they were faithful members of Gardendale First Baptist Church, where they shared deep faith in the Lord. Though their time apart was brief, they are now reunited once again in the presence of their savior, together for eternity.
Esther was a special woman whose life was a beautiful example of faith, love, kindness, and compassion. She stayed devoted to her prayer and never hesitated to lift her loved ones up in prayer. She loved everyone and she never met a person who did not deserve her kindness. She was sweet, gentle, and caring, always willing to offer a listening ear, a helping hand, or a word of encouragement. She simply loved people for who they were.
One of Esther’s greatest joys was loving and caring for children. She had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews and was there for them in ways that went far beyond what anyone could ask. She helped raise them all, pouring her time, patience, guidance, and love into their lives. To them, she was a mother figure, a source of comfort, and someone they could always count on.
Mrs. Cooksey is survived by her mother, Margaret Pettus; siblings, David Pettus, Mark Pettus (Kristen), Matthew Pettus, and Sarah Elliott; grandson, Elijah Suarez; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cooksey was preceded in death by her husband, Randy Cooksey; sister, Becky Johns; and her brother, Paul Pettus.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Suarez, Colton Teeling, Dylan Guess, Jake Pettus, Austin Heim, Wyatt Johns, Lee Whatley, and Wayne Day.
Hanceville Funeral Home is honored to serve the Cooksey family.
