Obituary

Cloie A. Powell, 95, longtime resident of Haleyville and the Nesmith community, passed away May 12, 2025 at Hanceville Rehabilitation & Nursing Home.

She was a loving wife, mother and home maker, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, loved watching Crimson Tide Football, and an ardent supporter of the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  She attended Nesmith Methodist Church for many years.

Visitation and funeral services are set for Friday, May 16, at Hanceville Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. and memorial service at noon with Bro. Joe Calvert officiating.  Her great grandnephew, Bro. Steton Hayes, will officiate over graveside services at Nesmith Church on Helicon Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which had done so much for her late grandson, Danny Pinkard.

Mrs. Powell is survived by husband, Odis Powell, Hanceville; sons, Gary Pinkard, James Garland Ray of Haleyville, Darryal Ray of Fairhope, and David Randal Ray and wife, Brenda of Daphne; and stepdaughters, Norma Jean Wren of Cullman, Carol Hayes (Bill), Cindy Tilley (Max), Donna Schmale (Craig); stepson, Allen Powell; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Clifford McDonald and Mary Magdalene Osborn McDonald, Adison, and her brother, Purvis McDonald; stepdaughter, Ima Jean Ray Hardin; stepson, Willie Joe Ray; grandson, Danny Pinkard; and two other husbands, Floyd Pinkard and Alton F. Ray.
