Mr. Bobby Gene Irons was born on October 1, 1937 to Leatha Elizabeth (Hopper) and Edgar Cleveland Irons in Adamsville, Tennessee.

He joined the United States Navy straight out of high school and took the only cruise of his life, on the Aircraft Carrier USS Hornet. After his Far East cruise, he returned to the States and was stationed in San Diego, CA. and while he enjoyed his time and adventures in the Navy, he was anxious to return home to Tennessee when his service was completed.

Bob loved cars - working on them and racing them. In 1961 he moved to Birmingham, Alabama to work as an auto mechanic. Birmingham is where he met his future wife, Mary Jane Shugart, while she was in Nursing School at St. Vincent's hospital. The two married in 1963 and made their home in Hanceville, Alabama; Bob worked at Drinkard Chevrolet in Cullman, AL then went to work as the Service Manager for Wood Chevroletin Birmingham. He dreamed of owning a "Classic Car", and that dream came true when he purchased and restored a number matching 1960 Pontiac Ventura (with three duces). His second passion was University of Tennessee athletics, he bled orange, Go Vols.

Later in life he became interested in woodwork and learned the trade while working for many years at Central Cabinet in Cullman. He then opened his own shop at home, where he refinished many antiques, built custom furniture and many of the trophy / display cases in numerous local high schools.

Bob was always willing to help serve his community; he was a former member of the Lions Club. He helped build the first softball fields at the current Hanceville Ball Park. He and his Wife, Mary organized and coached the first little girls softball teams in Hanceville.

Bob was most proud that he quit smoking and drinking at the same time and rededicated his life to Christ. He loved his Laodicea Church and was always a faithful servant; willing to serve in any capacity as needed.

He is survived by his Wife Mary, Daughter Annette Irons-Parker, Son-In-Law Stephen D. Parker and Grand dogs Sable and Maddie. One Sister Patsy Powell of Memphis, TN.  He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Brothers Willie, Jodie and Kenneth Irons; Sisters Dorothy Irons, Marie Petty and Annie Scott.
